IV – The Eerie Cold the fourth release of the Swedish band Shining, as I already had heard the previous releases my expectations where very high, and I must say all my wishes regarding this album are granted. The album starts of with I och Med Insikt Skall du Förgå which’s starts with some good acoustic tunes, also the bass parts are great and you can clearly hear Hellhammers style on the drums (which I prefer) than a solo kicks in which is really emotional and great composed

The Eerie Cold features Shining's regular breed of off black metal that at times feels more like hard rock mixed with black metal at times. The vocals are every bit as prominent, sometimes annoying sometimes perfect. I'm not one of those people that's going to tell you this is an incredibly dark album, but it is twisted and it fits the bill of depressive black metal even if it sounds unlike most other artists in the same subgenre. I could do without the voice clips, but this is a pretty desolate and unique release.

Shining’s fourth album, IV – The Eerie Cold, is where the band’s current and longest standing style would be set in stone. The typical slow, supposedly atmospheric passages with acoustic guitars, combined with usually faster passages with thickly layered distorted guitars form the essential Shining sound. IV - The Eerie Cold is the 4th album released by the Swedish BM band Shining. I had never heard of these guys before, and due to a very generic name and a few other facts, I expected this latest opus to be the usual and generic raw BM album. The thing that impressed me a bit was the fact that some of the members/ex-members had played or were also currently playing in some good bands, namely Forgotten Tomb, and of course, the appearance of Hellhammer on one of the older albums (or maybe 2 or 3, i'm not sure.
