Produced by At the Gates & Fredrik Nordström. Album Slaughter of the Soul. Slaughter of the Soul Lyrics. Never again On your force-fed illusions to choke You feed off my pain Feed off my life. There won't be another dawn We will reap as we have sown. Always the same My tired eyes have seen enough Of all your lies My hate is blind. Slaughter of the soul Suicidal final art Children, born of sin Tear your soul apart. Never again My tired eyes have seen enough Of all your lies My hate is blind.
Slaughter of the Soul" is then the worthy successor that comes dynamic, more intense and more trashy. The composition of this album is based on the same ingredients of its predecessor : progressive death riffs, trash parts and melodies on the Gotheburg way. But the evolution is all the same present and showed on quick parts, the dynamism follows the melancholy and the trashy shape of the composition. A real massacre offered then by the swedish quartet and a delight that nobody could refuse. Slaughter of the Soul" is a true classical kind that everyone should possess. Other productions from At The Gates.
The all-time classic album from Gothenburg's At The Gates. released November 14, 1995.
Slaughter of the Soul is masterfully crafted in design, both technically and lyrically, And through sheer talent At The Gates managed to create, or at least contribute to a new genre of music, melodic metal core. A hybrid of melodic death metal fused with elements of metal core, Without this album, bands such as Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage as well as Unearth and many more simply would not exist today if not for Slaughter of the Soul. Slaughter Of The Soul is fantastic from start to finish and does not let off the throttle. Blinded By Fear, Slaughter Of The Soul, Under A Serpent Sun and Cold are some of the stand out tracks from the album. The album has also managed to stand the test of time and is amazing even in to date. Without giving too much of the album away I do wish to tell you about two of the tracks off this album, Blinded By Fear and the title track Slaughter Of The Soul.
For a record released so recently as 1995, Slaughter of the Soul has gained quite some notoriety. With At the Gates, this dubious honour seems to have fallen to Slaughter of the Soul, possibly because it was the last full release they made before breaking up, or maybe it is actually their finest work
Slaughter Of The Soul is now firmly established as one of the most influential metal albums released during the 90s. The so-called ‘Gothenburg sound’ has become such a ubiquitous part of modern metal’s sonic vocabulary that few would dispute At The Gates’ status as pioneers. Recorded early in 1995 at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, and overseen by noted producer Fredrik Nordström, Slaughter Of The Soul was At The Gates’ first album for new labelmasters Earache Records, home to many of the Swedes’ own favourite bands, including Morbid Angel and Carcass. Signing to Earache was undoubtedly a commercial step up for Jonas and his bandmates, but they felt no pressure to make a particular type of metal album. Those songs, those riffs, those performances, it was all just a big coincidence, Jonas grins. I am pretty certain we didn’t have a plan.
Slaughter of the Soul was released in November 1995 and quickly won over metal fans and critics worldwide. I remember there was a huge buzz about the album," recalls Lindberg. It sold really well, at least when compared to what we'd done before. And things were going so well. And so, astonishingly, just 10 months after the release of the album, At the Gates stopped. No conflict, no arguments. They simply pulled the plug. I guess in one way, I regret that decision because it can be said we were on the way to even bigger things," says Lindberg. But perhaps Slaughter of the Soul was always gonna be our high point. And how many bands do you know who should have quit after their finest record, yet insist on going on, way beyond their sell-by date? So we all know that At the Gates stopped on an amazing high.
