Hey Joe" from Joe Buchanan's 'Live From Austin TX' performance. One of the pioneers of the telecaster sound, he was noted for his use of note bending, volume swells, staccato runs and "pinch" harmonics. He is considered by many to be one of America's most soulful guitar masters, and even 20 years after his death, he maintains an army of devoted fans, including some of rock guitar's greatest (just ask Jeff Beck, Robbie Robertson or Billy Gibbons).
I saw Roy Buchanan in a concert gig. His approach to stage presentation was almost totally non existant. He managed to drink a number of cans of beer, spoke very little between songs, tuned up a number of times, but boy did he play those strings off that guitar. Like Danny Gatton one of the only other guitarist that people mention in the same breath as Roy Buchanan he lived a life out of step with the world around him. It would seem that level of brilliance is a heavy burden to carry. Kingsley Fats, Jun 18, 2018.
Leroy "Roy" Buchanan (September 23, 1939 – August 14, 1988) was an American guitarist and blues musician. A pioneer of the Telecaster sound, Buchanan worked as a sideman and as a solo artist, with two gold albums early in his career and two later solo albums that made it to the Billboard chart. He never achieved stardom, but he is still considered a highly influential guitar player. Guitar Player praised him as having one of the "50 Greatest Tones of All Time. He appeared on the PBS music program Austin City Limits in 1977 (season 2). Contents. Charly Blues Masterworks: Roy Buchanan Live, 1999, Charly/Red X. American Axe: Live in 1974, 2003, Powerhouse.
