This is a complete NBC Symphony concert performance from 1944. Although the liner notes don't specify the venue - I am speculating this concert was performed in Carnegie Hall rather than Rockefeller Center's rather dry Studio 8-H - the sound quality is fairly good with decent dynamic range, good tonality and instrumental balance, and just a few patches of surface noise from the original acetates. Egmont is played in the 1944 broadcast performance with the power and tension you expect from Toscanini, in an approach very similar to the official 1939 and 1953 RCA recordings, but the 1944 orchestral sound is, overall, somewhat more blunted, although less harsh and agressive.

Egmont, Op. 84 by Ludwig van Beethoven, is a set of incidental music pieces for the 1787 play of the same name by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It consists of an overture followed by a sequence of nine pieces for soprano, male narrator, and full symphony orchestra. The male narrator is optional; he is not used in the play and does not appear in all recordings of the complete incidental music. Beethoven wrote it between October 1809 and June 1810, and it was premiered on 15 June 1810.
