Hmm, it looks like we don’t know much about this album. Do you know any background info about this album?

1. Gruppen (1955-57). Composed By – Karlheinz – Arturo Tamayo, Jacques Mercier (3). 24:30. Composed By – Karlheinz Stockhausen.

It may be true that Karlheinz Stockhausen's Gruppen for three orchestras (1955-1957) can only be appreciated in concert, where the ensembles' placement around the audience can be seen, the constantly shifting tone colors can be heard clearly, and the communication of musical material between the groups can be understood, just as the composer intended.

Gruppen, pour 3 orchestres - Punkte, pour orchestre, Orch. Symphonique de Cologne (WDR), dir. Arturo Tamayo & Péter Eötvös. The situation dramatically changed with the release of this Budapest Music Center disc in 2006. These are superb recordings of "Gruppen" and "Punkte," two major Stockhausen compositions for orchestra, with Peter Eotvos leading the WDR Sinfonieorchester Koln, recorded in 1997 and 2004. Eotvos (b. 1944), the Hungarian composer and conductor, was a regular member of the Stockhausen Ensemble from 1968 to 1976, and so has an intimate working knowledge of Stockhausen's scores and thinking about how they should be performed

Eötvös conducts Stockhausen. The) Rite of Spring, '(Le) sacre du printemps'. Selected comparisons. Stockhausen Gruppen & Kurtàg Stele etc. Markevitch conducts Stravinsky. Admittedly Punkte (1952) is known today in the 1962 revision, its original sparseness replaced by fuller contrasts of texture. What remains is its strangeness of formal continuity – onward motion determined by relative density of sound as the piece galvanises its initial fragmentation towards a forceful conclusion. It’s a process which is borne out strongly here. With Gruppen (1957), Stockhausen’s equating of sound and space reaches its initial peak – with the three orchestral groups projecting sound in a giddying array of spatial layers
