The Boomtown Rats are an Irish rock band that had a series of Irish and UK hits between 1977 and 1985. The group is led by vocalist Bob Geldof. The other members of the original line-up were Garry Roberts (lead guitar), Johnnie Fingers (keyboards), Pete Briquette (bass), Gerry Cott (rhythm guitar) and Simon Crowe (drums). The Boomtown Rats broke up in 1986, but reformed in 2013, without Johnnie Fingers or Gerry Cott Cott's departure. Cott departed from the band at this point. A follow-up album entitled In The Long Grass was recorded in 1983, but was initially rejected by the group's label. By 1984, the band was touring universities after becoming unable to fund the "guarantee" required to book mainstream concert halls.

The Boomtown Rats discography. The discography of Irish new wave group The Boomtown Rats consists of six studio albums, five compilation albums, 20 singles and three video albums. The Boomtown Rats' debut release was the 1977 single "Lookin' After No. 1". The group's next single "Mary of the 4th Form" was released in the same year, along with their self-titled debut album.

Banana Republic Lyrics. Chorus: Banana Republic Septic Isle Screaming in the Suffering sea It sounds like crying Everywhere I go Everywhere I see The black and blue uniforms Police and priests. And I wonder do you wonder While you're sleeping with your whore That sharing beds with history Is like a-licking running sores Forty shades of green yeah Sixty shades of red Heroes going cheap these days Price; a bullet in the head

Banana Republic" was the first single from The Boomtown Rats' album Mondo Bongo. It peaked at number three in the UK Singles Chart. Breaking from the band's previous new wave sound, the song opens with a ska-reggae hook (that repeats at the close of the much longer album version). However, the song itself is a more mainstream piece musically

I've swallowed it now and trying to move on. However, I have been prompted to move too by Bobby Boomtown himself who has pushed me into a project with one of the Rats' old friends from Dublin who is going to make a 'history of the Rats' type documentary; so if any of you have old footage (super 8 etc), posters/flyers that can be copied and sent or rare. Back to gigs soon and we all on tip toes for the forthcoming album.
