Anna Karenina is a 1948 British film based on the 19th-century novel of the same title by the Russian author Leo Tolstoy. The film was directed by Julien Duvivier, and starred Vivien Leigh in the title role.
Boris Eifman’s ballet Anna Karenina is a true burst of inner psychological energy and is amazingly precise in delivering emotional impact upon its viewers. By setting aside all secondary storylines in Leo Tolstoy’s novel, the choreographer focused on the love triangle Anna – Karenin – Vronsky. The Anna Karenina novel by Tolstoy has always been the object of my keen interest. While reading Tolstoy, one can see how fully and intimately the author understands the inner world and psychology of his heroes, how keenly and precisely describes he the life in Russia. In the novel one will find a plunge into the psychological world of the chief character and also a psycho-erotic interpretation of her personality.
De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam offers high-profile exhibitions about art, photography, and inspiring individuals and cultures. Public transportation De Nieuwe Kerk is located on Dam Square, Amsterdam. It is a 10 minutes’ walk from Central Station. Subway: M52, station Rokin. Anna Karenina, too, is torn between convention and passion, duty and rebellion. Her fate inspired many choreographers to create remarkable works. Even Maja Plissezkaja created a choreography in 1972, set to Rodion Schtschedrin’s music – the leading role was taken up by the legendary ballerina herself. This was followed by classic and modern interpretations by Boris Eifman, Jochen Ulrich, Alexei Ratmansky and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Christian Spuck’s adaptation premiered at the Zurich Ballet in 2014. Soloists and corps de ballet of the Bavarian State Ballet. Bayerisches Staatsorchester.
