Daryl Hall and John Oates are currently on a lengthy arena tour with Train, playing a set full of their indelible hits. Earlier this year, however, Oates released a stellar solo album, Arkansas, that nodded to his love of blues and roots music, and specifically the artist Mississippi John Hurt. Recorded in about two weeks, the full-length is loose and evocative, and full of well-wrought Americana highlighted by Oates' heartfelt, weathered croon. To record Arkansas, Oates recruited an ace group of musicians dubbed the Good Road Band, which features mandolinist Sam Bush, Russ Pahl on pedal.

The Blues has traveled around the world and back again, and our list reflects this and they do! but to our ears they sound pretty good. Even if you have some Wolf on your shelf, the sheer value of this collection makes it a 'must have'. Sonny boy williamson II - his best. Known as ‘The Beano Album’, this opened up the Blues to a new young audience on both sides of the Atlantic. Eric Clapton had left the Yardbirds because he thought they were going ‘commercial’ and this album, recorded with John Mayall’s superb band, is a powerful statement of his intent. Clean production allows the passionate enegy of the music to shine through, and it set a high benchmark for others to aspire to.
British blues: Direct from the Delta to Dartford and beyond, the Blues turned British rock on its head. These Staffordshire blues terriers sounded a bit too much like John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers on their first album but the follow-up, Plays On, branched out in several directions. The addition of a mellotron to the mix brings a progressive dimension to the sound, notably on Mum’s The Word based on Also Sprach Zarathustra (the 2001 theme). His mercurial nature makes is hard to choose the definitive Rory Gallagher album but Tattoo comes close, mainly because after four solo albums he’s finally locked in tight with his band.
Listen to Daddy Was a Railroad Man from The Seldom Scene's Act Four for free, and see the artwork, lyrics and similar artists. Then came mandolinist John Duffey, who had quit the Country Gentlemen two years before due to disillusionment with the music business. The Seldom Scene is an American bluegrass band formed in 1971 in Bethesda, Maryland out of the weekly jam sessions in the basement of banjo player Ben Eldridge.
What was the first blues album that made you become a blues fan? Let me know right underneath this post. Free Blues Mini Course. Lost count of the number of blues records and CDs I’ve bought. I too love SRV, and if you haven’t already, you should check out his In Session album with Albert King. Sadly I never saw either of them live on stage. But I do have a VHS of a TV recording called BB King and Friends, or something similar. It featured BB, Clapton, Albert, SRV, Paul Butterfield, Etta James, and Doctor John.
The Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album was awarded from 1983 to 2011 and from 2017 onwards. Until 1992 the award was known as Best Traditional Blues Performance and was twice awarded to individual tracks rather than albums. The award was discontinued after the 2011 Grammy season in a major overhaul of Grammy categories. From 2012 onwards, the category was merged with the Best Contemporary Blues Album category to form the new Best Blues Album category.
Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей John Coltrane. Coltrane Plays The Blues (LP, Album). I love this selection. Compiled from the "My Favourite Things" sessions, this was put together and released by Atlantic a couple of years later, once Coltrane had moved to Impulse. There's some powerful stuff on here, "Mr Knight", "Mr Day", "Blues to Elvin", "Blues to Bechet", no duds, all good, the packaging's great and the alternate takes are also very good quality.
