Goldrush were formed in the late 1990s under the name Whispering Bob, after the DJ "Whispering" Bob Harris, who frontman Robin once served while working in the local SPAR shop. After releasing the mini album Another Fine Mess on their own Truck Records label, they changed their name to Goldrush, and soon after were signed to Virgin Records. Their first full-length album, Don't Bring Me Down, appeared in 2002, but the band was dropped by Virgin later that year  . The band have collaborated with former Ride singer Mark Gardener, serving as his backing band when performing live, and on his album These Beautiful Ghosts Truck Festival.

Though he used to make noise aplenty as coleader of Ride, perhaps the archetypal English '90s "shoegazer" band, singer-guitarist Mark Gardener has been pretty quiet for the past eight years or so. (Okay, he did briefly helm a group called the Animalhouse. Most of the album revolves around Gardener's humble but appealing voice and authoritative acoustic-12-string strumming, with Oxford (. homeboys Goldrush providing sympathetic support. The close three-part harmonies on "Summer Turns to Fall" and "Where Are You Now?" occupy territory previously inhabited by Crosby, Stills and Nash, while the dulcet chorus of "Getting Out of Your Own Way" would have sounded right at home on an AM pop station circa 1973. Gardener's aim isn't always so true.
