To this day, I still struggle to understand the complexities and subtleties of his music, and I know that ultimately I never will truly understand this, nor any of his other works. This, of course, is what separates the Michelangelos from the Average Joes.

A History Of Distance ‎(4xFile, MP3, Album, 320). There is just something about this album that really resonates with me above all his other work I've heard. I will readily admit that during one particular listen, I cried throughout. Must have been a bad day :P ).

Physical distances are there for all to see, but the longer, seemingly insurmountable distances are, to outside eyes, invisible. The distance hurts because it’s close to the heart, and yet the relationship finds itself exiled to the soul’s Sahara. In the physical world, no distance like it is known; it would be futile, impossible even, to get a true reading. A break-up, a failing friendship or a long running feud are all scented with the same poison, creating dissonant distances around the world. It can rip a relationship apart, beyond saving.

A History of Distance, CD Digital Those familiar with Brock Van Wey's music know his work is as visceral as it is prolific. While his current home base of China could easily be assumed to be more socially distant from the western world, this distance which Van Wey chooses to live might not only allow for the bountifulness of his output, but more ironically, might have something to do with the emotive longing that his music is often blanketed in. His new album, the aptly titled, "A History of Distance" embodies this longing. It waxes and it wanes with it. "A History of Distance" has a far more aching undercurrent than any of his previous bvdub works

There is just something about this album that really resonates with me above all his other work I've heard. The stars really aligned for me here. Everything Between You and Me has become one of my favorite tracks ever, and even after listening every day for several months straight, after hundreds of plays, it still never gets old. The other songs have just as much staying power to them and tons of emotion. I will readily admit that during one particular listen, I cried throughout. (Must have been a bad day :P )
