Description

Ghettos & Gardens" is the first single from Justin Martin's debut artist album on dirtybird

Justin Martin - Ghettos & Gardens Ever since he made his entrance on the electronic music scene with "The Sad Piano" in 2003, Justin Martin has continued to press on, turning out bass-heavy yet beautifully melodic productions on a regular basis. It's become something of a calling card for the San Francisco inhabitant, who helped co-found Dirtybird alongside Claude VonStroke and others, which is where his debut long-player Ghettos & Gardens finds a home. Martin's album is, unsurprisingly, largely comprised of music that surmises his ability to meld opposing extremes.

Artist: Justin Martin Album: Ghettos & Gardens Label: Dirtybird Release Date: 22/05/2012. Justin Martin made the very first release on dirtybird records in 2005. Ghettos & Gardens" is exactly as advertised - a tender and tough collection of songs that build you up with sweeping strings, then break you down with earth shattering basslines. Most people would say that Justin is one of the most charismatic likable DJs to walk the.

"Ruff Stuff". Fucking ruff. That is all.

Justin Martin goes a little mellow and melodic on this album, yet still quite glitchy in the production, a little too much for me to be honest.BUT then comes "The Gurner", which is without doubt this year's deep-house tear-jerker by miles, and what's left of my little teenager heart starts melting all weak and tender. After a regular, melancholic bass-laden start, the sublime beatless break at 1:37 reminds me of last year's "Thora Vukk" by Robag Wruhme, transcended by Pillowtalk's slick contribution (proper songwriting, snaps, disco echoes, that sort of thing), and some post-deluded soulful vocal on a post-k treatment (Benoit & Sergio-meets-Luomo's-"Tessio"-ish). This one will be part of the good memories of 2012.
