Vision Thing is the third studio album by English gothic rock band the Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 13 November 1990 through Merciful Release and EastWest Records, with Elektra Records handling the US release. Soon after the release of the band's previous album, Floodland, Eldritch approached guitarist John Perry to join them on writing a new album.

Eldritch assembled a new group to record their third and, so far, final album, ' Vision Thing ', released in 1990 – first recruiting Bruhn on guitars in '89, and then Tony James (formerly of Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Generation X ) on bass in '89, and lastly Tim Bricheno ( All About Eve ) on guitars in '90.

The discography of the British rock band The Sisters of Mercy consists of three studio albums, two compilation albums, two extended plays (EPs), and sixteen singles. The Sisters of Mercy were formed in Leeds in 1977 by Andrew Eldritch (vocals, drums) and Gary Marx (guitar) and they released their debut single, "The Damage Done" in the same year on their own independent record label, Merciful Release

For the second Sisters Of Mercy album Floodland, you worked with Jim Steinman – writer of Meat Loaf’s Bat Out Of Hell – on two songs, This Corrosion and Dominion. People thought that with the second album we were completely Steinman-ised, but it’s untrue. This Corrosion is ridiculous. It’s supposed to be ridiculous. It’s a song about ridiculousness. So I called Steinman and explained that we needed something that sounded like a disco party run by the Borgias. After Vision Thing, you entered into a lengthy dispute with your record label, Time Warner, that effectively ended your recording career. Everybody said, ‘You can’t survive as a band if you don’t put out albums – you’ve got to keep your record company. Twenty years later, I’m not so sure.

Let's face it; The Sisters of Mercy is Andrew Eldritch. He pretty much made Floodland almost entirely by himself. After the disbanding of the original Sisters of Mercy lineup, he pretty much got into a fight with Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams over the name The Sisterhood. Eldritch hastily wrote a new song and released it under the moniker "The Sisterhood" so he could claim the name. If anything, him being a control freak broke up the original and superior lineup of The Sisters of Mercy during the "First and Last and Always". Vision Thing is completely different from the sound of First and Last and Always, it is instantly noticed by the opening and title track "Vision Thing". The song is hard rock that is mixed in with some glam rock.
