In some ways, it was unfortunate that "In deep" was the album which the masses went for, since it is a good album but by no means Argent's best. It's only money" maintains the more commercial feel in two pretty much unrelated parts. The best track is actually "Losing hold", a darker and heavier cry for help, with some excellent vocals and a great instrumental ending.

Rod Argent formed Argent in 1969, following the breakup of the Zombies. The lineup consisted of his cousin Jim Rodford and former Roulettes members Russ Ballard and Bob Henrit. Argent were an English rock band founded in 1969 by keyboardist Rod Argent, formerly of The Zombies. They had three UK Top 40 singles, "Hold Your Head Up", which reached number five and spent 12 weeks on the chart, "Tragedy" (number 34) and "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" (number 18). Two of their albums charted in the UK, All Together Now, which peaked at number 13 in 1972, and In Deep, which spent one week at number 49 in 1973.

This Argent Anthology is that album for this artist in 1976. And it was, (and is), a fine product, in and of itself. She's Not There, Tell Her No, and Time Of The Season, are what got most people my age and older interested in Argent to begin with. His teaming with Russ Ballard was icing on the cake since Russ managed to turn so many Argent songs into hits for other groups. It's Only Money Part 1, a solid blues rock venue that will make you wish they had included Part 2 on this set (I have no idea what Part 2 sounds like since I never owned or heard IN DEEP, the '73 album this was taken from).
