Indeed, Ochoa's precise, clear, and bell-like guitar work is apparent throughout the album and, if possible, he's improved as a player, offering the unexpected on "Llora Mi Nena" or a rich solo accompaniment on the closing "Sus Ojos Se Cerraron. He continues to be prolific but, even more impressively, he continues to stretch himself and his talent in a way none of his colleagues have managed.

Eliades Ochoa Bustamante (born 22 June 1946) is a Cuban guitarist and singer from Loma de la Avispa, Songo La Maya in the east of the country near Santiago de Cuba. He began playing the guitar when he was six and in 1978 he was invited to join Cuarteto Patria, a group founded in 1939, as its leader

With his 10-gallon hat and cowboy boots, the Santiago-born Vocalist-guitarist Eliades Ochoa is known as the "cowboy" of the world-renowned Buena Vista Social Club. Because of his success with that group, he's made a few recordings of his own as the leader of Quarteto Patria.

Ochoa has always tried to expand his appeal, working with anyone from Charlie Musselwhite to Manu Dibango, and he continues that tradition here. This time the guest celebrities are the Los Lobos guitarist David Hidalgo and the Mavericks' singer Raul Malo, but neither they nor the classy trumpet work of Anibal Avila shift Ochoa from his centre-stage position. He eases through ballads and country dance songs while adding in his effortlessly impressive trademark guitar solos. Great stuff, as always, but just a little too easy and predictable. An established star like Ochoa needed a newcomer.
