Description

Chapelle Royale, Brussels, Belgium. 3. Retir'd from any mortal's sight. 4. Since from my dear Astrea's sight.

Accent ACC 24321 (4). ACCENT RECORDS has rereleased four recordings from 1978–82 of René Jacobs at vocal maturity, just as he was going on to have a conducting career of distinction. These include a disc of Purcell songs, one of German Baroque cantatas, songs and arias by unexpected composers such as Donizetti, Bellini and Schubert, and a complete recording of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. It’s interesting to evaluate Jacobs’s singing on these offerings in light of what almost four decades of countertenors have produced since.

René Jacobs (born 30 October 1946) is a Belgian musician. He came to fame as a countertenor but in recent years has become renowned as a conductor of Baroque and early Classical opera. Born in Ghent, Jacobs began his musical career as a boy chorister at the Cathedral. Later he studied classical philology at the University of Ghent while continuing to sing in Brussels and in The Hague.

THE ACCENT is a proto-metal music artist. Ren‚ jacobs: the countertenor - the accent recordings 1978-1982 used - very good.

Jos van Immerseel is one of the leading representatives of historical performance practice today. With the Ensemble Anima Eterna, founded by him in 1987 and performing on historical instruments, he set new standards with recordings of the works of Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, Rimsky-Korsakoff, Poulenc and, most recently, Orff. On the occasion of Jos van Immerseel's 70th birthday in November 2015, this box offers a backward glance at the time when Jos van Immerseel, as the winner of many international competitions and prizes, still focussed primarily on keyboard instruments.

The Album Recordings 1984-2007 is an impressive new Joe Cocker 14CD box set which is due for release at the end of August.
