Eyes & Nines doesn't quite sound like it was recorded at a basement show somewhere; the fidelity's a little higher than that. But the recording is kept purposefully raw, and the immediacy is there. Hash Wednesday" is the type of thing that should just destroy live; after all the hyperspeed riffage of the songs that came before, it's slow and full of empty space.
In the recent past, Trash Talk were almost exclusively synonymous with quick-fix frenzies of furious, angst-racked rhapsodies – last year’s Shame compilation rollicked through 29 tracks in 28 minutes – but here they widen their sonic palette to some degree with a relatively lengthy dirge by the name of Hash Wednesday. It’s a sludgy aside on an otherwise breathlessly boisterous album, and though as absolutely generic in scope, albeit equally accomplished of execution, as the rest of its makers’ fare, it represents a welcome change of pace
It’s definitely a violent and engaging listen that packs a punch, but the short running time means that little long term damage is caused. Sure, the final six tracks hit you with their anger and relentlessness, but the fact that they only last a combined total of seven minutes cushions the impact somewhat. As such, this record is better viewed as an EP rather than an album. Although the material on offer is of a good standard, this is unfortunate as it limits what can be achieved
Trash Talk is an American hardcore punk band from Sacramento, California, formed in 2005. They have toured all around the world including Japan and Europe, as well as performed in many festivals in support of their releases which helped give the band recognition from publications including Rolling Stone. Formed in 2005, Trash Talk soon released a demo on Sell Our Souls Records, as well as a split with Bay Area band Steel Trap in 2006 for Spiderghost Pressgang.
