Mavis Staples is the debut solo studio by American rhythm and blues and gospel singer Mavis Staples. It was released on June 16, 1969, by Volt Records.

Time Waits for No One" has built a reputation as the lost gem in Mavis's back catalogue, and as a big fan I finally sprung for a hard-to-find copy. To my disappointment, the album is long on fungible, totally unmemorable, electro-funk and short on real music.

Track B4 co-written by Mavis Staples & Prince. Prince also provides backing vocals on all the tracks he wrote, with the exception of track B3 ("I Guess I'm Crazy"). Sheila E. sings "co-lead" vocals (per liner notes) with Mavis on the title track, "Time Waits For No One," in addition to playing drums and percussion. First steps Prince (through manager Bob Cavallo) approached Mavis Staples about recording an album in Autumn 1987 after seeing her perform as part of The Staple Singers in August 1987 at The Forum, Inglewood, CA, USA. The group had been unsigned for 13 years, and Mavis Staples soon signed with Paisley Park Records. Work on the album began in February 1988, when Prince recorded Interesting  . The album produced three singles, 20th Century Express, Jaguar and Time Waits For No One, but failed to chart. CD. LP. The compact disc version is the original issue.
