The memorable album cover uses a 1967 photograph of Marine Cpl. Michael Wynn in the Vietnam War with MEAT IS MUDER written on his helmet. The original image of the soldier was also used for Emile de Antonio’s 1968 documentary In the Year of the Pig about American involvement in the Vietnam War. If you are paying attention you can see that The Smiths made a slight adjustment to the original photo. Upon finding the body of his bandmate, Euronymous, instead of calling the police, went to a nearby store and bought a disposable camera to photograph the corpse. One of these photographs was later stolen and used as the cover of a bootleg live album entitled Dawn of the Black Hearts. I haven't posted the picture due to its disturbing nature, but if you don't have a weak stomach, you can see the album cover here.
