Garbage regrouped on April 10, 2001. The group began work on their third record, and put aside plans for a B-sides album due to the sale of Almo Sounds to the UMG. Manson ran an online blog throughout the recording of the album named Beautiful Garbage. During the recording of the album, Garbage invoked a provision of its contract to leave Almo, and sued UMG when it refused to terminate the contract. The band announced to Billboard that their fifth studio album would be released independently of any major label support. On January 6, 2012, the band announced that they had entered Red Razor Studios in Glendale, California to record bonus material for their forthcoming album, later confirming on Twitter that a further five tracks were being worked on, including the new title.

Not the outside world. It's who you trust and who you feel safe with that you tend to like to reveal yourself t. Now, however, Vig says Garbage is back on an even keel. Everyone's getting along," he notes. We're really having fun at the shows. Fans will get to hear a some new Garbage music next month, too. For Record Store Day, the group covered Patti Smith's "Because The Night" with Screaming Females, who Garbage toured with last fall. We did it old-school style," Vig reports. They came out to Hollywood and we went into a big tracking room and recorded Phil Spector style - two drum its, two bass rights, Shirley and Marissa (Paternoster) singing vocals.

Garbage's self-titled debut has all the trappings of alternative rock - off-kilter arrangements, occasional bursts of noise, a female singer with a thin, airy voice - but it comes off as pop, thanks to the glossy production courtesy of drummer Butch Vig. Not only is the sound of the record slick and professional, but all the tracks are well-crafted pop songs. Unfortunately, only a handful of the songs are memorable, but those that are - "Vow" and "Queer," in particular - are small, trashy alternative pop gems.

The big five help drive the so-called oceanic conveyor belt that helps circulate ocean waters around the globe. While they circulate ocean waters, they’re also drawing in the pollution that we release in coastal areas, known as marine debris. The most famous example of a gyre’s tendency to take out our trash is the Great Pacific Garbage patch located in the North Pacific Gyre. The patch is an area of concentrated (and mostly plastic) marine debris. While this is certainly the most talked about garbage patch, it is not the only garbage patch in the ocean. DIANNA PARKER: There are garbage patches all over the world. These are areas where debris naturally accumulates.
