Four fat guys with long hair and/or beards made a metal album. Well, I didn't see that one coming. And is it just me, or did these fuckjobs name themselves after a novelty parody of the Intel Inside logo? They list their influences as "Entombed, Sepultura, and old Machine Head. I guess you can guess what it sounds like.

Their debut album "Volume One" seems to insist that there will be more where this came from, but hopefully Devilinside will rethink their musical approach before recording again. It's not that I don't like this sort of music - although I did get into metal slightly after these bands had hit their peaks - it's just that these things had their time and place, just as Slayer and Iron Maiden had theirs. Anytime a band shamelessly copies a style, no matter how well, without adding something significant of their own, I am always unimpressed

After just a few songs I began to hear both the biggest strong and weak points on this album. Vocalist Jamie Gonzales is the biggest trump card that this album has. His harsh screaming has a lot of power and fits this kind of music and its hate-filled lyricism very well. The problems begin when the compositions are taken under a magnifying glass. Devilinside has potential in their sound and especially in their vocalist Gonzales. But with fellow rising bands from the States such as God Forbid and Shadows Fall tearing heads apart left and right with their new albums, a piece of work this mediocre cant really hold up. Time will tell if this bands abilities will be used more effectively in the future.
