About Jackson C. Frank. A tragic figure in the story of American 20th century folk. Born in 1943 in New York Jackson C. Frank made only one record, achieved only a modicum of commercial and popular recognition and suffered from depression and addiction nearly all of his life. His influence however remains unquestioned, with Nick Drake, Paul Simon and Fairport Convention all indebted to his sparse, melancholic folk confessionals. Despite a raft of reissues and collections the 1965 eponymous Jackson C Frank remains his definitive statement. Popular Jackson C. Frank songs.
His eponymous 1965 album, "Jackson C. Frank", was produced by Paul Simon while the two of them were also playing folk clubs in England. Although Frank was well received in England for a while, in 1966 things took a turn for the worse as his mental health began to unravel, and his subsequent career took a plunge. Born in Buffalo, New York, Jackson was only eleven years old when a furnace at his school exploded, killing fifteen of his classmates and leaving him scarred, having more than half of his body burned in the fire. He was introduced to playing music by a teacher while he recovered in the hospital. Ten years later, he used the insurance money from the accident to catch a boat to England where he would record his one and only album, his eponymous debut record. Persuaded by friend and producer Paul Simon, Jackson recorded the album in just three hours at the CBS Studios in London
