Biba's Basement from The Thrashing Doves (1986) (7'').
This song is by Thrashing Doves and appears on the album Bedrock Vice (1987).
While Bedrock Vice may seem genial on the surface, the Thrashing Doves slide dark narratives underneath the rollicking music. In "Rochdale House," for example, a boy sells his body to a businessman for drugs while "Killer for You" has a man robbing a bank to impress a girl. However, the Thrashing Doves are unable to sustain Bedrock Vice's initial pace. Once "Biba's Basement" is over, the group sounds drained.

The Thrashing Doves were a London-based rock band. Their line-up consisted of Ken Foreman (vocals/guitar) with Brian Foreman (keyboards), Ian Button (guitar) and Kevin Sargent (drums). The original bass player was Hari Sajjan. Subsequent bass players were James Eller, Claire Kenny and Gail Ann Dorsey. Dorsey went on to work with David Bowie and released her own album, The Corporate World. In 1987, Bruce Forest remixed "Jesus on the Payroll" using David Cole on piano. 1986: "Matchstick Flotilla" (A&M). 1986: "Biba's Basement" (A&M). 1987: "Beautiful Imbalance" (A&M) - UK No. 50. 1987: "The Grinding Stone (Let Me Climb Your Ladder)" (A&M).
1986: "Biba's Basement" (A&M). The album was recorded by Simon Trought (formerly of Tompaulin and Hayman, Watkins, Trout and Lee) and Dot Allison guitarist Ian Button (formerly of the Thrashing Doves and Death in Vegas) and was described in The Fly as "one of the albums of the year". In August 2009, the band released their fourth single "The Fight Song" and played a second session on Marc Riley's 6Music show
