Cali's sophomore effort, the much-anticipated Menteur, finally dropped that autumn. The following summer, he co-starred in the film musical Magique! In 2008, he released his third studio album, L'Espoir. The singles from the album were "Resistance" and "1000 Coeurs Debout.

L'Espoir (English: Hope) is an album by Léo Ferré released in 1974 by Barclay Records. All songs written, composed, arranged and directed by Léo Ferré, except Marie, whose text is written by Guillaume Apollinaire. This song was originally B-side of 12-inch single Je t'aimais bien, tu sais, released in 1973

Cali is also a center for sports in Colombia, as the only Colombian city to have hosted the Pan American Games (in 1971). At the end of 2003, he released his first well-known solo album L'amour parfait. Regarded as a critical success, the album made him known amongst the premier French artists. Popular songs from the album include "Elle m'a dit", the single "C'est quand le bonheur" and "Pensons à l'avenir".

The album released on Universal was certified gold. He also developed a close collaboration with music video director Karim Ouaret who directed most of his successful videos. In 2000, Raphaël released his first album Hôtel de l'univers (the title is a tribute to Arthur Rimbaud), but it was not until three years later that he enjoyed his first mainstream success with the song Sur la Route, a duo with famous French singer Jean-Louis Aubert, included in his second album La Réalité.
