Geoff Smith (born 1966) is a British music composer, writer, and academic. Along with his wife, singer Nicola Walker Smith (born 1964), he has written and recorded several pieces of contemporary classical music as well as published the 1995 book New Voices: American Composers Talk about Their Music (alternate title American Originals: Interviews with 25 Contemporary Composers). 15 Wild Decembers (Sony Classical, 1995). Geoff Smith studied Music at the universities of Nottingham, Oxford and Huddersfield, his work first coming to prominence in the early 1990s via the independent label, Kitchenware Records. In the mid-1990s, Faber & Faber published his book: 'American Originals: Interviews with 25 Contemporary Composers', including John Cage, Philip Glass and Steve Reich. His music became more widely known through two album releases on Sony Classical and through performances by The Geoff Smith Band in the United States, Australia and Europe. All the songs are haunting, though The Last of England and Fifteen Wild Decembers are particularly memorable, not least because of Nicola Walker Smith's seductive, velvety vocal style.
