Broken Boy Soldier is the title track and the third single to be released from the album Broken Boy Soldiers by The Raconteurs, on October 23, 2006 in the UK. Jack White (from Uncut magazine): I guess it was about breaking out, like it’s time for everybody to grow up, kind of thing. There’s a feeling when all your friends are musicians and nobody has a real job, you wonder how long this is going to last and how long it’s going to be before people start – not getting a real job necessarily, but treating people with respect and acting more responsibly

Broken Boy Soldiers is the debut album by American rock band The Raconteurs, released on May 15, 2006 in the United Kingdom and May 16, 2006 in the United States. The album was generally favored among critics and spawned the hit single "Steady, As She Goes". The album earned a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 49th Grammy Awards. The songs were written by Brendan Benson and Jack White. Steady, As She Goes" was the first song the pair worked on, followed by "Broken Boy Soldier"

Lasting just ten tracks, their debut, Broken Boy Soldiers, doesn't feel hasty, but it doesn't exactly feel carefully considered, either. It sounds exactly as what it is: a busman's holiday for two prodigiously gifted pop songwriters where they get to indulge in temptations that their regular gig doesn't afford.

The Raconteurs' full-length debut, Broken Boy Soldiers, was recorded at Brendan Benson's in-home studio located in Detroit. A CD version of "Steady, As She Goes" was released on April 24, 2006, with the B-side "Bane Rendition". The Raconteurs first performed live at the Academy in Liverpool, UK, on March 20, 2006, launching a short British tour.
