The name INTO THE ABYSS refers to the plunge into the labyrinthine sea of the psyche. This is an ocean of emotions, expressed through psychedelic delay guitars, violin/sopran saxophone parts and powerful dark vocals, blends the tragic nature of Gothic with the threatening aggressiveness of Doom and the vitality of Art Rock.

Their unique sound has established them as one of the most innovative new guitar oriented bands. All through the past years INTO THE ABYSS have seen a few line-up changes.

Immediately debuting their first album Martyrium the year they got together, Janis Kalifatidis (vocals/ guitar), Kostas Tzeras (bass) and Jens Gellner (drums) would follow this release with a tour in and around their native Germany. After the single "La Soeur D'Icare" and a split ten-inch with Grass Harp in 1995, Into The Abyss' second full-length The Feathered Snake succeed a year later.
