Strid means "Battle" in Norwegian. End of Life was previously released under the name Battle. There are bootleg releases on CD (2005 by Ars Mysteriorum) and LP, each featuring both "End of Life" and the 7" EP tracks. The band is commonly recognised as the creators of depressive black metal. Jardar is not the same guy who plays in Old Man's Child and Requiem. Storm is not the same guy who used.

Although Strid by no means take the depressive black metal style to the same degree as many other bands in the future would (vocals that sound like crying, promo pictures including slit wrists) there is plenty of melancholy to be found on this EP. The first track Det Hviskes Blant Sorte Vinder starts off with a very stereotypical intro including wind noises and other sounds; however this ends after a short 30 seconds and you are greeted with the tracks solemn sound. Vocally this album proves to be quite impressive. Storm has an affective painful sounding rasp, one that is powerful enough to convey emotion but not too intrusive as to disrupt the mood of the songs.

Björn Ove Ingemar "Speed" Strid (born 10 September 1978) is a Swedish vocalist who has worked with bands such as I Legion, Disarmonia Mundi, Terror 2000, Coldseed, The Night Flight Orchestra and most notably Soilwork. Strid was born in Helsingborg. He gained the nickname "Speed" from fellow students as a result of the "extreme music" he was known to enjoy.
