Album · 1999 · 40 Songs. 10. All Revved Up. The Smithereens.
The Smithereens remain a hugely influential band - like the Beatles brought bang into the noughties - and their selections here reveal their energy and enthusiasm: covers of Christmas songs by the Ramones, Brian Wilson, The Who and an obscure Beatles song, as well as more traditional fare like Run Rudolph Run and Auld Lang Syne. Like their previous release, a faithful cover of the Beatles Meet The Beatles album, this sounds like an entirely Smithereens album - the songs sound like originals, a hark back to the days when bands would make and release Christmas albums and songs without any trace.
Produced by Tyler Joseph. You know I've always been collected, calm and chill And you know I never look for conflict for the thrill But if I’m feeling Someone stepping towards you, can't describe Just what I'm feeling. For you, I’d go Step to a dude much bigger than me For you, I know I would get messed up, weigh 153 For you I would get beat to smithereens.
11. Blues Before & After. The album opens with "Beauty and Sadness", when you listen closely it sounds similar to the Beatles "Ticket to Ride". The next song, "Strangers When We Meet", has a distinct Top 40 sound. Blood and Roses" is one the Smithereens best songs with it's pulsating beat & distinctive bass run, it went to on the Mainstream Rock Tracks. The Smithereens was a group that should have done better but didn't. For the casual fan this is a great collection of songs. After listening to it you'll be wondering why these guys didn't last longer or gotten more recognition.
