The Quartette Trés Bien was an American jazz combo based in St. Louis led by pianist Jeter Thompson. The group was founded in 1959 and began recording in 1962. Jeter Thompson played with Jimmy Forrest, Oliver Nelson and Emmett Carter in his early years. The bassist of the group is Richard Simmons, the drummer Albert St. James who accompanied also Charlie Parker, Tab Smith and Jimmy Forrest. Percussionist Percy James added a latin flavor to the quartet who played more than ten years, before splitting in 1973

Influenced by the sounds of the Orioles and Ravens, the Sparrows Quartette’s attempts to rekindle nostalgia for classic doo-wop was piloted by R&B aficionados Dominick ‘Dom’ D’Elia (lead), Sam Wood (bass) and James Brady (baritone). Dom’s 11-year-old brother, Billy D’Elia (tenor), and Bob Freedman (ex-Squires; lead tenor) completed the line-up (effectively meaning the ‘Quartette’ was in fact a quintet). Formed in New York, USA, in 1961, the group’s debut single was ‘Merry Christmas Baby’ on Broadcast Records in 1963. He later formed Jet Records in 1965, by which time the Sparrows’ line-up.

The Sparrows Quartette originally did In My Diary, Prisoner of Love, Sixteen Tons, Wheel of Fortune and other songs. The Sparrows Quartette. Considered by many to be the premier white a capella doo-wop vocal harmony group, the Sparrows Quartette were formed in Queens, New York City in 1961. The group broke up in 1969 but reformed in 1971.
