The new DAC-1v2 is the evolution of our ever-popular DAC-1 and DAC-1 LE, featuring the all-new ESS Sabre 9026PRO DAC chip. I now have close to 100 hours on the W4S DAC1V2. The sound has improved even more. No. I am not associated with W4S in any way shape or form. Previous clients and audio friends cannot believe what they are hearing. I had West Side Story being performed in my audio room.

DAC-2 sounds very much like the M-DAC (Sharp Rolloff + D3E Unmodified). Clear, detailed all around (slightly bright up top) . ASUS Xonar ST (Cryo), Oyaide DR-510, Audiolab M-DAC, Shunyata Black Mamba XLR ADAM ARTist 5, ADAM ARTist Sub, Shunyata Venom 3, SurgeX XS 10 (Custom Modified). Mar 4, 2012 at 2:37 AM. Post of 11.
I finally got a customers W4S DAC2 in my system. Turned out his I2S cable was bad. Anyway, I got the chance to hear both S/PDIF and I2S driving the W4S DAC2. Both outputs were upgraded with Hynes reg and I tried both Short-Block and Monolith. The difference between Short-Block and Short-block with Monolith was small, but noticable. S/PDIF from the OR5 to W4S is like decent stereo, but the magic is missing. The top-end is detailed, but I got bored immediately. With I2S, this is like real music. The bass is not quite as well-defined and the slam not quite as good as the Overdrive SE, but the liquid liveness is definitely there. The bass is all there, but maybe not quite as focused. I could listen to this all day long.

Best DAC £500-£700, Awards 2014. Effortlessly talented and enjoyable, the M-DAC is still the best product of its kind Tested at £600. Best DAC £500-£700, Awards 2014. Effortlessly talented and enjoyable, the M-DAC is still the best product of its kind. For. Capable and entertaining sound. The DAC is transparent enough to clearly show the benefits of a well-recorded high-resolution album, but it doesn’t turn its nose up at MP3s or streamed songs either. Even a 320kbps this site stream of The Knack’s My Sharona has the sense of fun that the agile Audiolab brings to all music files. The M-DAC has got it all: punchy timing, seamless dynamics and plenty of space in a well-constructed stereo soundfield.
The M-DAC nano is a tiny unit, barely bigger than a custard cream biscuit. It’s light too, weighing in at just 28g. Being small and light are major plus points for portability, but the nano’s biggest advantage over rivals such as the Soundkey or the Dragonfly (below) is that the connection with your device is done wirelessly, in this case by apt X Bluetooth (v. ). There's a built-in rechargeable battery, too. Sonically, it's an exciting and entertaining performance that will improve your music on the move with minimum fuss.
Headphone Amplifier: Yes DAC Chip: ES9010-2M Sabre MQA Playback: No Max Sampling Rate: 24-bit/352kHz What We Like: Amazingly easy to use, great sound. What We Don't: Not a ton of in/out options. That means great sound in a setup that’s ideal for mobile listening. It’s one of the smallest DACs we’ve ever encountered, and definitely the smallest on this list. That being said: it would have been nice to see DSD functionality. It’s not a dealbreaker, but other less-expensive DACs, like the Optoma NuForce uDAC5, do include it. It’s strange to see it missing here.
