The album is more quiet here, but it's not an album worse than the first one if someone is expecting more synth pop punk it may be less liked. Songs do not bore you can enjoy the well done lots of vocals and ubiquitous savings really this band has its climate is not repetitive.Listen, and in time, come to this is a successful album.

I have the cd and do hear hiss on several tracks. especially quiet ones like acoustic song track 2. I assume it is an analogue recording and I'm hearing the noise floor of the format. I wonder if thats what your hearing on the record?I also hear some cracks and pops on occasion.

Anyone else getting surface noise on sides A and D? It's pretty bad on my copy.

The first copy I bought directly from the band at a show had surface noise on sides A & B. I ordered a second copy online and all sides on that one sounded fine.

side D is not really good on my copy. distorsion and some surface noise, not good on La Vague which is very quiet.

Mine have terrible surface noise on sides A and D.

My vinyls are in a pretty good shape, I don't hear any particular noise on no side...

Fantastic Album from start to finish ! Loved their first record & was really worried that the follow up wouldn't live up to its predecessor. Thankfully my fears were unfounded, and La Femme have delivered an Album of the Year contender. Certainly more psychedelic production wise, the album never feels bloated or jarring. I felt the opening track "Sphynx" was an odd choice for the first single (as it's arguably one of the albums lesser tracks), but the follow up singles ("Ou Va Le Monde" & "Septembre") are much more grounded, which is still not entirely representative of the record as a whole, but they fit well on the first chunk of the album, allowing the last half to be a bit more psychedelic, while the middle of the record is a bit more dancey. All in all, this record is aural magic, and highly recommended !

The album’s title Mystere is a dead give away as to what you may or may not expect from La Femme, on this their second album, where the band not only creates, but submerges themselves in to a grab bag of sorts, ranging from surf rock, near punk, synth-pop, and several skirts with pastoral psychedelia that are rather short for the intensity and emotion [though some will question the sincerity of that emotion], delivering a lengthy sixteen tracks that swell and ebb, as if this creation were designed and produced by a club DJ who just can’t get enough of the addictive attitude, or lack thereof, of La Femme.Make no mistake about it, this is serious music only, for those who want to have serious mindless fun. Mystere is like going to the carnival and then deciding to live there, where the flashing of bright lights shower over the wide eyed faces of the audience, with a relentless backbeat that sets it all to motion, invigorate an atmosphere of randomness and surprise. There is no musical theme found on Mystere, what is found is more cinematic, where the lead vocals change and interchange [both male and female] in an almost film noir soundtrack, where once down the rabbit hole, every room one enters is compelling and completely different … and all seeming to be going on simultaneously. Some have essentially called this a release a free spirited avant indie mosaic of electronics. I would suggest that it’s an adventure into the world of techno meets dream-pop, under varied chemical influences that eventually fold back on themselves, delivering a morphing of disco, but sustained disco nonetheless. Topping in at nearly 70 minutes this modern opus, with its sci-fi nature is rather long, and certainly a challenge to get through in one sitting … though if you do manage the listening feat, you just might find yourself treated the complexities of a rabbit hole you rather enjoy. Though having said that, in all honesty, Mystere is not important, nor is it enduring, it’s simply a modern presentation of so much that’s gone before, freshened up of course, yet merely the background to esoteric atmospheric existentialism, though lacking in authenticity.Yet sometimes … eating sweets is its own reward. In my opinion first album was nothing more than orgasm after the obscure cinema porno show. I like it, but after few I get bored. There were and are many groups doing the same sort of music. Not bad, but nothing new and to remember.
