Even upon their arrival, Jawbox actually seemed like more of a Chicago band than a . one, carrying the torch for bands like the then petering out Naked Raygun and the then-late Effigies and Breaking Circus. While the trio's occasional bash-bash-bash rhythms certainly sounded like their roots were firmly entrenched in the . hardcore punk of the '80s, J. Robbins' guitar playing surely took cues from Raygun's John Haggerty more frequently than Minor Threat's Lyle Preslar.

Jawbox played its first show opening for Fugazi in 1989. Not long after that, the band began to tour and record, releasing its first single, Tools & Chrome, in 1990 as a split between Desoto and Dischord. Jawbox released two full-length records on Dischord, Grippe and Novelty, and toured heavily throughout the ’90s.

Jawbox was a post-hardcore band which formed in 1989 in Washington . The band consisted of J Robbins (vocals, guitar), Bill Barbot (guitar), Kim Coletta (bass) and Adam Wade (drums). The band split in 1997.
