Omar & the Howlers is a Texas based electric blues and blues rock band, The original Howlers was formed in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1973. Three years later they moved to Austin, Texas Contents. He worked out a new lineup, and recorded the debut album Big Leg Beat for Amazing Records in 1980, just after fellow Austin band The Fabulous Thunderbirds. The record was a local hit and was followed by I Told You So. Success. That year saw the release of Hard Times in the Land of Plenty, that went on to sell over 500,000 copies. The band now consisted of Dykes singing and playing guitar, Bruce Jones on bass, and Wes Starr on drums. Dykes and this rhythm section have been playing together off and on for over 30 years.

It may be Hard Times In the Land Of Plenty but it will be Good Times For All when you play this LP. I waited a long time to find this one in other than vinyl format. One person found this helpful. I recall the summer of 1987, working in a record store. yes we had vinyl and cassettes back then. Cd's were just being introduced. I liked this album so much because it was so consistent in the quality of the songs on the album no "Dogs" all the songs were great and still are. When I started swicthing as much of my music collection as I could to Cd's this particular item was a must have. I paid a little more than I would have liked to, but it was worth it in the end. Omar And The Howlers are an Austin based band formed by guitarist and singer songwriter Omar Kent Dykes. They tour Europe on a regular basis and continue to record today. Signed to Columbia Records in 1987 they released Hard Times In The Land Of Plenty a rough and tough collection of original songs and edgy sounds, and by this time slimmed down to a trio playing their own brand of powerful Texas blues rock.
