Weather Diaries is the fifth studio album by English rock band, Ride. The album was released on 16 June 2017, and is the first Ride album since 1996's Tarantula. The album was produced by English DJ Erol Alkan and mixed by long-time Ride collaborator Alan Moulder. The album was supported by two singles: "Charm Assault", released on 21 February 2017, and "Home Is a Feeling" released the next day.

Ride reformed in 2014 for gigs to celebrate their key shoegaze album, 1990’s Nowhere. When it came to discussing their future, talk of new music was vague, but when the first two post-reformation tracks - "Charm Assault" and "Home is a Feeling" - were unveiled earlier this year, they showed a band revitalised  . For Ride to produce such a strong album is a wonderful thing. To compare this to their first two albums is silly - bands and entire genres were formed off the back of those records - but does Weather Diaries sit up there with them? Absolutely.

So in the end, while it will not blow you away, Weather Diaries is a respectable comeback from a band that has finally got their stuff together and learned from their mistakes. Their peers My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive have already released strong comebacks recently, so they also have competition to compare to. And even though this album is not as great as these two, considering Ride barely pushed their sound forward here, it is still a welcome return.
