Party Time is a studio album by The Heptones and backing band called The Upsetters, released in 1977. Along with Junior Murvin's Police and Thieves and Max Romeo's War Ina Babylon, this album can be seen as part of a Black Ark Lee 'Scratch' Perry produced "holy trinity". Highlights include the title track, a Rasta-influenced cover of Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released", the menacing "Storm Cloud", and the determined "Road Of Life".
The Heptones had a number of Jamaican hits for Studio One, beginning with "Fattie Fattie", their first Studio One single in 1966. This began a long run of success for Coxsone, including "Pretty Looks Isn't All", "Get In The Groove", "Be a Man", "Sea of Love" (a cover of the Phil Phillips and the Twilights doo-wop classic), "Ting. In 1975, The Heptones signed an album deal with Island Records. Two albums resulted: Night Food in 1976 and Party Time in 1977. Night Food was produced by Danny Holloway, and featured several re-recorded Studio One classics, as well as originals such as "Country Boy" and "Mama Say". Observer's Style (1994).
Born 1953 in Whitfield Town, West Kingston Earl 'Little Roy' Lowe won a scholarship to study to be a building engineer at St Andrew Technical High where he was a student until he was eighteen but "I never practised my trade!" for all the time he was studying the call of music provided too strong and, like so many others before him, h. The first two Tafari releases were actually released on Hepic - "a label owned by the Heptones and a jockey called David Mackenzie. The fist song I recorded was called 'Mr T. The other release was the haunting instrumental 'Free For All' featuring Family Man Barrett on keyboards and both were cut at Randy's studio down on North Parade.
