Discovery is the second studio album by French electronic music duo Daft Punk, released on 26 February 2001 by Virgin Records. It marks a shift from the Chicago house sound prevalent on their first studio record, Homework (1997), to a house style more heavily inspired by disco, post-disco, garage house, and R&B.

Discovery (Daft Punk album). Discovery is the second studio album by French electronic music duo Daft Punk, released on 26 February 2001 by Virgin Records. It marks a shift from the Chicago house sound prevalent on their first studio record, Homework (1997), to a house style more heavily inspired by disco, post-disco, garage house, and synthpop. The album was recorded at Bangalter's home in Paris between 1998 and 2000. The album features extensive sampling; some samples were from older records while others were recorded by Daft Punk playing live instruments themselves. Fellow electronic musicians Romanthony, Todd Edwards, and DJ Sneak collaborated on some tracks both musically and lyrically. For the album's music videos, the group developed a concept involving the merging of science fiction with the entertainment industry. It marks a shift from the Chicago house sound prevalent on their first studio record, Homework, to a house style more heavily inspired by disco, post-disco, garage house, and R&B. Comparing their stylistic approach to their previous album, band member Thomas Bangalter described Discovery as an exploration of song structures and musical forms whereas Homework was "raw" electronic music. Released February 26, 2001. 1. One More Time Lyrics. Discovery formed the basis for an anime, Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, supervised by Leiji Matsumoto (Space Battleship Yamato, Space Pirate Captain Harlock and Galaxy Express 999).

Daft Punk is a French electronic music duo formed in Paris in 1993 by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. They achieved popularity in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement; they also had success in the years following, combining elements of house music with funk, techno, disco, rock and synthpop. They have worn ornate helmets and gloves to assume robot personas in most public appearances since 1999 and rarely grant interviews or appear on television.

This could just be me, of course

I own the Parlophone repress of this. Is it just me or is the second vinyl record (sides C/D) a mediocre pressing? Both sides skip at the beginning, Side C gets wobbly around Voyager/Veridis Quo, and Too Long's clipping gets a little wonky for a while.By the way, this is a great album. I would give it five stars; the three stars are for this version due to the pressing quality.

Right?! I felt like I was going crazy. I have tons of whooshing and static on the first three tracks beginning and ending in all the same spots every time, in areas where it should be quiet. So annoying.

Just got a brand new copy of this from Juno - Yep, definitely a dodgy pressing. Side C is where it goes wrong as far as I can hear. I've listened to this album on CD many times so know what it should sound like. There is noticeable excess surface noise before "High Life", including a ghost track that starts faintly about 2 seconds before the track actually begins properly. Verdis Quo has the "wobbly" phasing effect you described, as if the hole has been punched slightly off centre. I can't hear anything wrong with side D on my copy.
Shan Shan
Might be a mediocre pressing, for me I have distortion on the first 3 tracks; every other track is fantastic though
Ynonno Ynonno
Dorstlesser What do you mean with 'wonky'? No record player plays all records without skipping, although in the past, upgrading my tone-arm has made a huge difference. The 1997 pressing of Daft Punk's Homework, for instance, skipped like a mother on my old (cheap) player but plays like a charm since I upgraded. It sounds rather "loud"; that is, to the point of notable distortion. As for skipping, I've noticed my pressing is indeed slightly off compared to your average record; as if the hole was placed in the wrong spot. Maybe like you said, the player factor has something to do with it too, since I will confess to currently owning a rather cheap player; but it's still odd that this happened to my pressing.

Is it just me or is the spine upside down? It faces the opposite direction of my other records.
Perilanim Perilanim
I have the same thing.
Sorryyy Sorryyy
I've read that this is the style used by spines for books, records, etc. in France. Even though the inconsistency with my other records is a mild annoyance, I'm actually a little disappointed that Random Access Memories (at least the US version) doesn't conform to the previous standard!
Timberahue Timberahue
I think this is more of a "french thing".. I have seen it on many french records and also on almost every french paperback book, for example.
tamada tamada
It is different on every record.
The Apotheoses of Lacspor The Apotheoses of Lacspor
its like that on the "homework" 2xLP aswell. Really annoying
Voodoogore Voodoogore
Yeah, it's like that on mine as well. Pretty annoying...

This repress does not include a Daft Club card unfortunately, even though ironically the linear notes of how to use the Daft Club card is still on the back of the first inner album sleeve.
