I think this was Brennan's first long player and alongside Roach echoes Tesla and Edison for companion rivalry. I can smell the Los Angeles concrete being heated by the California sun on this one. That feeling of endless time at dusk hazy in shorts and T-shirt is captured. Music whose limits are infinite and limited at the endpoint - YOU!

Thom Brennan's Mountains is one of the finest and most ambient offerings that Thom Brennan had made thus far. Thom Brennan's Mountains explores deep and profoundly resonant sonic atmospheres that evoke the beauty of moonlight shining down upon a mountainous peak as one watches from miles away.
Thom Brennan (born May 31, 1957 in Lubbock, Texas) is an American electronic ambient musician, composer and synthesist. Active since the 1980s with his first album Mountains (1987), he belongs to the scene of Californian pioneers of electronic music. His style encloses the principal traits characterizing the evolution from Terry Riley's and Morton Subotnick's minimalism to the form of electronic new age suite.
Just "discovered" Thom Brennan, and glad I did. "Mountains" is flawless. Especially the song "Mountains". You'd think a 27 minute song would be a challenge but this song is special, I didn't want it to end, very spritual. Looking into getting the rest of his albums. back before ambient and "chill out" came into vogue, musicians like Brennan, Kit Watkins, Steve Roach, Jeff Greinke, and Robert Rich were creating superb, sublime works of gentle and dynamic ambient music, blazing new trails opened up by Brian Eno in the 1970s and early 1980s. MOUNTAINS is a forgotten classic from the 1980s. If you like DREAMTIME RETURN or STRUCTURES FROM SILENCE, you'll like this album.
