Despite being bookended by a few awkward detours, Assume Form contains James Blake's best writing and production since the earlier part of this decade.

Released January 18, 2019. Assume Form Tracklist. 1. Assume Form Lyrics. Assume Form is the fourth studio album from English singer, songwriter, and producer James Blake. It is the follow-up to his third studio album, The Colour in Anything, which was released in May 2016. The twelve-track album boasts features from Travis Scott, André 3000, Metro Boomin, and more. The album is heavily inspired by James Blake’s relationship with actress Jameela Jamil, whom Blake has been in a relationship with since 2015. On December 4, 2018, James Blake announced a North American tour that stretched from February to March 2019. This announcement ignited rumors of an ensuing album.

Assume Form is the fourth studio album by English singer-songwriter and producer James Blake. It was released on 18 January 2019 by Polydor Records. Critics described the album as having a more upbeat sound than Blake's prior work, especially his previous album, The Colour In Anything (2016). The album, which contains elements of electropop, hip hop, and R&B, features guest vocal appearances by Travis Scott, Moses Sumney, Rosalía, and André 3000, as well as contributions from producer Metro Boomin.

James Blake has always been a confessional nsider the days where he sang about siblings who would not speak to him, or the I can’t believe this, you don’t wanna see me that opened 2016’s The Colour in Anything. But Assume Form is something else, something like a great unburdening.

Sonically, Assume Form might be James Blake's most approachable album to date, but its emotions are anything but simple. These are less love songs and more James Blake’s love songs. Assume Form is surely a shift toward a more optimistic Blake, but occasionally at the cost of song quality and his expected moments of spicy originality. It's a good, sometimes excellent, yet quite uneven record.

James Blake - Assume Form At the beginning of his fourth album, Assume Form, James Blake finds himself at a mental crossroads. It's a pretty song, made from blossoming piano lines, tender drums and strings, but his mind is in conflict. I will be touchable by her, I will be reachable," he decides. I mention all of this not for TMZ titillation but because, in light of Assume Form, it now feels relevant to Blake's sound. It's an album that steps out of the cloistered space of his past music into the world around it. A little pop music seeps into his usual electronic soul and gospel style. The collaborators seem to have more influence than they did on Blake's previous albums.

Love is a murky, uncertain, only sporadically blissful thing on James Blake’s fourth album, Assume Form. But sometimes it manages to break through his chronic melancholy. He needs the changeup, because echoes of his own past are his toughest competition. Since the release of his self-titled debut album in 2011, Blake’s style has made a thoroughly improbable conquest of pop’s commercial mainstream, seeping into hip-hop, R&B and rock. Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and Anderson
