This is Psycroptic's second album. Their first album, The Isle of Disenchantment, was awesome and it was wondered upon if Psycroptic could better their efforts and release an album with perfect production and awesome riffage and drumming. They did that and so much more. Psycroptic have been a rising name in the Death Metal world for quite some time now, embarking on European Tours and the like. Scepter of the Ancients has some of the most technical insane drumming known to mankind. This guy's talented, folks. Double-bass isn't a luxary with this band - it's the norm.

The band recorded its second album The Scepter of the Ancients in 2003 for release through United States label Unique Leader. They played their first full Australian tour in support of American death metal band Incantation. Psycroptic's second studio album was what cemented them firmly in the place of Australia's greatest extreme metal band. However, this is not to that the album is only a masterpiece by Australian Technical Death Metal standards, but by those held worldwide. Unfortunately, I don't think the album gets the recognition it deserves. With songs that range from being brutally heavy, to sounding like utter chaos, this album should have something for all fans of the genre. Each member of the band does an outstanding job on The Scepter Of The Ancients. The guitar and bass might be my only downfall with The Scepter Of The Ancients, which I feel is slightly too low in the mix. I can't help that they would only be more impressive if they were slightly louder. Otherwise, they put in another outstanding effort.
