The Makings Of Me features production from Jermaine Dupri, Missy Elliot, Damon & Harvey and Sean Garret and includes the spicy hit "Everytime Tha Beat Drop". Few can coo a love song as convincingly as Monica, but The Makings of Me confirms what many have suspected since the ATL-based firebrand lit up the charts with Brandy in 1998: it's when she's digging through the wreckage of a busted-up relationship that she dishes up her best work. Monica just tried to be a hip-hop artist on this album and that's not monica. Maybe a guest rapper or a hip-hop remix works but this album was the makings of someone else. I hope on her new album, She gives us the R&B Monica that gave us songs like Before You Walk Out Of My Life Eternal's "Angel of mine". This Hip-hop Monica doesn't work. I can see why This album didn't sell.
