Craig Armstrong's collaboration with . Rahman proved fruitful for the soundtrack of this historical epic. In a rather unconventional move, the soundtrack for the sequel to the 1998 film Elizabeth, 2007's Elizabeth: The Golden Age, was the product of collaboration not only between two composers, but two styles of music. Rahman for providing an exoticism and a different approach than that of Armstrong, who had cut his teeth on Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet and Love Actually.
Immensities (Album Version) by Craig Armstrong & . Ar Rahman also contributed to the score and gave it a surprising splash of Eastern influence which at first sounded out of place to me, but actually works beautifully in context of the unique, almost mythic vision of the film. If you're a fan of the choir-filled movie scores of the past decade, then you'll probably enjoy this as much as I did, but if you're after something a bit more unconventional, you'd be better served by other soundtracks. I enjoyed this second film in the Elizabeth trilogy, but felt that director Shekhar Kapur should have used the same composer, David Hirschfelder instead of the overblown Hollywood-type music used in Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Hirschfelder's music was superbly atmospheric and made excellent use of Elizabethan dance music in the court scenes.

The film won two Satellite Awards for Best Production Design for Guy Hendrix Dyas and Best Costume Design for Byrne.
