Burn the Priest is the debut studio album by the American heavy metal band Burn the Priest. The album was released on April 4, 1999 by Legion Records. It was the band's only release before being re-named to Lamb of God until the release of Legion: XX on May 18, 2018. All lyrics written by Burn the Priest and Judd Prather, except where noted; all music composed by Burn the Priest, except where noted.

Mark Morton (guitar), John Campbell (bass), and Chris Adler (drums) formed the first incarnation of the band, BURN THE PRIEST, in the winter of 1994 after meeting four years earlier as students at Virginia Commonwealth University. As they enter their 20th year since releasing their first self-titled album as BURN THE PRIEST, the band will release a full-length covers album that reflects on the greatness of classic punk, hardcore, crossover and noise - rock subgenres that contributed to what LAMB OF GOD - and indeed, the world - now view as modern heavy metal.
Burn the Priest is an American heavy metal band formed in 1994 in Richmond, Virginia. The band decided to change their name to Lamb of God shortly after the release of a self-titled debut album in 1998. Mark Morton (guitar), Chris Adler (drums) and John Campbell (bass) started a band named Burn the Priest. The band members knew each other from the college they were all attending, Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

Burn the Priest moved away from the metal world for Legion: XX, instead tackling punk, hardcore, crossover and sludge tracks from bands like Bad Brains, Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, . Our inauspicious beginnings somehow grew into something none of us had ever even imagined possible, let alone aspired to, however, this is the story of Burn the Priest, says guitarist Mark Morton. The quintet will release the project as Burn the Priest, which was its original moniker - it had renamed itself Lamb of God by the time it delivered its second album, 2000’s New American Gospel, to prevent any potential associations with Satanic metal. Vocalist Randy Blythe explains that back when the act was called Burn the Priest, the black metal scene was starting to get a lot of coverage in the United States. like, ‘Oh, you worship the devil. No, we’re basically a punk rock band that kind of plays metal, so, no, we don’t worship the devil.
