Ollie Imogene "Jean" Shepard (November 21, 1933 – September 25, 2016) was an American honky tonk singer-songwriter who pioneered for women in country music. Shepard released a total of 73 singles to the Hot Country Songs chart, one of which reached the No. 1 spot. She recorded a total of 24 studio albums between 1956–81, and became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1955.

Oklahoma-born country singer Jean Shepard stayed true to her hard Honky-Tonk sound throughout a recording career that lasted more than twenty years. She was discovered in Southern California by band leader Hank Thompson, who put her together with record producer Ken Nelson (Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Roy Clark). She had a hit right from the start with "A Dear John Letter," a duet with Ferlin Husky.

The album's material comes from eight separate recording sessions. The first recording session began in September 1952 and two separate sessions in 1952. This is followed by three recording sessions that took place in 1955 and then two that took place in 1956. This Is Jean Shepard contained two of Shepard's Top 10 hits from 1955, which were "A Satisfied Mind" and "Beautiful Lies".

Jean Shepard had two children; a son, Shepard, and a daughter, adrian, boen in 1942 and 1948 respectively. The couple divorced shortly before Adrian was born, and Shepard had no contact with them after that for reasons known only to him. His son even went to a book signing of his father's when he was 16, and jean Shepard pointedly refused to make eye contact with him. The son left, humiliated.

Shepard leaves behind Benny Birchfield, her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, three sons and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are unknown at this time.
