Specter at the Feast is the seventh studio album by American rock band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, released on March 18, 2013 in Europe and March 19, 2013 in the US. It was released under the band's own record label, Abstract Dragon, through Vagrant Records. Unlike Beat The Devil's Tattoo, the album wasn't produced by Michael Been, who died after he suffered a heart attack mid-tour in 2010 while the band was playing at Pukkelpop.

BRMC's seventh studio album, 2013's Specter at the Feast, takes this musical maturation even further, as the band delves into a moody, sustained, and long-form dream pop aesthetic. Much of this introspection is most likely inspired by the loss of Robert Been's father, the Call frontman Michael Been, who suffered a heart attack and died backstage at the 2010 Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium. As BRMC's touring soundman, Been was an invaluable source for both creative and professional advice, as well as an inspiring, loving force in the group's life. Poignant yet triumphant and joyful in tone, the cover, as with all of Specter at the Feast, stands as both a heartfelt tribute to their bandmate and a rallying cry for moving forward.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s sixth studio LP was inspired by the death of Michael Been, the band’s producer/sound technician and father to bassist Robert Levon Been. On it, the San Francisco trio make the transition from classic rock pretenders to full-on classic rock. Specter at the Feast was made in tribute to Been- a journeyman rocker himself who fronted 80s AOR band the Call, whose populist anthem Let the Day Begin is probably spinning on some classic-rock station this very moment, between Hot Blooded and Twilight Zone. BRMC’s covers Let the Day Begin on Specter, and while it doesn’t quite fit with the band’s usual blacklit gloominess, it does square with their stubborn survivalist instinct. So long as there’s an audience for meat-and-potatoes rock songs like Let the Day Begin, there will be bands like BRMC
