He is best known for his 1973 album Tubular Bells – which launched Virgin Records and became a hit after its opening was used as the theme for the film The Exorcist – and for his 1983 hit single "Moonlight Shadow". He is also known for his rendition of the Christmas piece "In Dulci Jubilo". Oldfield has released more than 20 albums with the most recent being a rock album titled Man on the Rocks, released in 2014.

Tubular Bells III is the 18th album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1998 by Warner Music UK. A sequel to Oldfield's 1973 Tubular Bells and his 1992 Tubular Bells II albums, it was released on the 25th anniversary of the first Tubular Bells album. Oldfield created the album while living in Ibiza, and has said the inspiration for some of its electronic elements came from the styles of music played at the island's bars and clubs.
