The Ukrainians did a couple of John Peel sessions that were so popular that they got signed to an album deal. Of course, the mystery remains: why isn't this music, and this band, much better known? Perhaps they got filed under "world music" and forgotten, or people were confused and thought this was supposed to be authentic Ukrainian folk music. The original songs of the Ukrainians are full of the sence. They beautiful, sad, have a lot of soul in them. Sometimes they make me cry, because somehow these guys managed to capture the truth of the life in Ukraine so accurate and reflected it so well in their songs and they singing and playing. Now waiting for an other CD of The Ukrainians "Vorony". One person found this helpful.
Watch now Ukrainians, The's video clip of album "Istoriya - The Best Of The Ukranians".
And it's good to see that they've weighted it in favor of their original and traditional material, rather than the covers of the Smiths and the Sex Pistols that, wonderful as they are, act as a lovely diversion from the meat of what the band's about. That said, the disc opens with a new track, another cover, this time of the Tornadoes' "Telstar," which feels a little hastily thrown together
Ukrainians Format: Audio Cassette. Simply put, One of the best albums ever made. The Ukrainians are an Anglo-Ukrainian band who are one of the originators of the folk punk style after The Pogues. The album is stunning using Ukrainian folk songs in a setting the ranges from gentle to ferociously joyful. The guy who complained about the volume has a point. It was an early era CD and the sound mixing shows it.
The Ukrainians were formed in 1990 by Wedding Present guitarist Peter Solowka, with singer/violinist Len Liggins and mandolin player Roman Remeynes, after all three had played on the Wedding Present's Ukrainian John Peel Sessions recordings (Ukrayinski Vystupy v Johna Peela, released 1989). Following the success of that release, the trio began composing and recording in Ukrainian as a separate band. Istoriya: The Best of the Ukrainians (2004). Live in Czeremcha (2008). 20 Years (Best of) (2011).
