January 31, 1937 - October 13, 1937. 1937 was a busy year for Big Bill Broonzy, who was turning 44. A greatly in-demand blues guitarist in Chicago, Broonzy was also an underrated singer and a major solo artist. This CD from the Austrian Document label (the sixth of 11 that trace his entire prewar recording career) includes 26 selections with plenty of alternate takes and nine previously unreleased performances.

Big Bill Broonzy (born Lee Conley Bradley, June 26, 1903 – August 14, 1958) was an American blues singer, songwriter and guitarist. His career began in the 1920s, when he played country blues to mostly African-American audiences. Through the 1930s and 1940s he successfully navigated a transition in style to a more urban blues sound popular with working-class African-American audiences.
