Natty Dread is the seventh studio album by Bob Marley and the Wailers, released in 1974. It was the first album released as Bob Marley and the Wailers instead of just the Wailers, the first recorded without Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, and the first recorded with I Threes, a female vocal trio consisting of Marcia Griffiths, Judy Mowatt, and Marley's wife, Rita Marley.

As part of the Wailers and before the release of Natty Dread, Bob Marley had already put in a considerable effort to break into the charts with his first international album releases Catch A Fire and Burnin’. I Shot The Sherriff’ became a US N. hit (still Clapton’s only such success) and his enthusiastic endorsement of a Marley song, with an arrangement that did not differ hugely from the original (on the Burnin’ album), was a considerable spur to popular acceptance of reggae music in general and Marley in particular. The timing of Clapton’s hit could not have been better.

Natty Dread, Island ILPS 9281, was originally released October 25, 1974. Track 10 recorded during the Natty Dread sessions; first issued on Talkin' Blues, released february 4, 1991. Reissue supervised with special thanks to The Marley Family and Chris Blackwell. Mastered from the original two track analog master tapes at Sterling Sound, New York, 2001. Natty Dread was the first Solo Album by Bob Marley. His buddies Peter and Bunny left the Group and the doors were open for a Solo Careeer of the first and only International Superstar to ever come from outside the US or Europe, but from a small Island in the Carribbean - Jamaica. As small as the Island me be, the music they played down there was huge and hot. There was just a certain formula missing, so that other's could feel this Vibes too. Even Bob Marley couldn't conquer the world overnight with just one album; but it was one Song that would change all that later

On Episode of 2 Guys 1 Album, hosts Mike Heidemann and Paul Farahvar vibe on the sweet, sweet sounds of legendary Rastafarian and Reggae singer, Bob Marley. The guys groove on each track with the insight of a hawk as they dissect Bob Marley and The Wailers "Natty Dread".

Natty Dread" was just another step on his way to become a legend, marked their most successful release up to that point and most importantly: It was a damn fine reggae record. Maybe even his best after this radical break, outshining even an album like "Exodus". In a large part this is due to a relaxed and playful vibe present on those nine tracks that none of his later records could establish that much. Opener Lively Up Yourself already provides an excellent example, serving as a smooth anthem for reggae itself and skanking, yet with a light religious undertone.

Survival (Bob Marley & The Wailers album). Survival is the eleventh studio album by Bob Marley & The Wailers released in 1979. Survival is an album with an outwardly militant theme. Some critics speculate that this was due in part to criticism Marley received for the laid-back, ganja-soaked atmosphere of his previous release, "Kaya", which seemed to sidetrack the urgency of his message.

Natty Dread is Bob Marley's finest album, the ultimate reggae recording of all time. This was Marley's first album without former bandmates Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston, and the first released as Bob Marley & the Wailers. The Wailers' rhythm section of bassist Aston "Family Man" Barrett and drummer Carlton "Carlie" Barrett remained in place and even contributed to the songwriting, while Marley added a female vocal trio, the I-Threes (which included his wife Rita Marley), and additional instrumentation to flesh out the sound. Considering that popular rock music was entering the somnambulant disco era as Natty Dread was released, the lyrical and musical potency is especially striking. Marley was taking on discrimination, greed, poverty, and hopelessness while simultaneously rallying the troops as no other musical performer was attempting to do in the mid-'70s.
