Reduction is the way to production, Mr. Banks". The title of the album might refer to the fact that this time Banks does everything alone whilst before he had some help from a keyboard player. The absence of keyboards is however not a problem as they are replaced here by guitar synthesisers played by Banks himself. In terms of quality, Reduction constitutes an improvement over the previous Self-Contained, and it is as good if not better than Instinct. This is Banks' last ever solo album, but he worked with several artists in various other contexts before he sadly passed away in 2013.

If you're expecting to hear a reproduction of Instinct on Reduction, you'll have to settle instead for less. Peter Banks falls prey to the allure of gizmos, drowning out his own guitar work with drumbox beats and synthetic basslines.

Reduction by Peter Banks is quite good. I don't regard it as an example of his best playing, which was with Flash, but nonetheless it's a good instrumental release. I only have one other Banks solo, "Two Sides Of Peter Banks", which is also instrumental and on par with Reduction. I plan on eventually obtaining more of his work in the future. If you're into good instrumental rock that doesn't stay with one theme long enough to be boring, then check out Peter Banks. Reduction is another welcome addition to his solo catalog from the last few years. From sparkling cool atmospheric jazzy stylings to razor sharp funk grooves, this album shows many of Banks' guitar mastery. The songs are more about composition than showboating, like most guitar albums, however there are plenty chops for those who are unaware of Banks' skills. Banks is the second solo studio album by Paul Banks, the lead singer of the band Interpol. It was released on October 22, 2012. The first single is the opening track, "The Base", which spent 7 weeks on the Mexico Ingles Airplay chart, peaking at Banks was recorded in New York and Connecticut with producer Peter Katis.
