Iron Duke In The Land. Calypso - Best of Trinidad.
The Duke of Iron (born Cecil Anderson, 1906 – 1968) was a calypsonian, nightclub and concert entertainer, and recording artist from the 1930s through the 1960s. He was renowned for his bawdy humor, crisp diction, and confident vocal mannerisms. His clarity in pronouncing English lyrics helped him achieve tremendous popularity with American audiences. Anderson was a native of Trinidad, and moved with his family to New York in 1923

The Great Western Railway Iron Duke Class 4-2-2 was a class of 7 ft 1⁄4 in (2,140 mm) broad gauge steam locomotives for express passenger train work. The prototype locomotive, Great Western, was built as a 2-2-2 locomotive in April 1846, but was soon converted to a 4-2-2 arrangement, with the leading wheels set rigidly within the sandwich framing, rather than in a separate bogie. The remainder of the class entered service between April 1847 and July 1855.
Iron Duke biography The music of IRON DUKE is keyboard oriented from the 70's and like ELP, they re-arrange classical songs with their first album in 1974. The second album was released in 1977 and contains rock versions of Danish songs. The song "Rockin Edward" adapted from "Per Gynt suite" and from the first album is probably the best one. They recorded a song for the benefit EP Greenpeace Sange Med in 1983. IRON DUKE Videos (YouTube and more). Gammel Dansk Paisley Press.
Why was Wellington called the Iron Duke? Apsley House, Wellington's London home. Print published 1830, courtesy of the British Libray on Flickr NKCR. We discover the true origin of the nickname. One of the great generals of British history is Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington (1769-1852). One of his nicknames was the 'Iron Duke'. But how did this originate? The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography says its origin is obscure and identifies Punch magazine using it in 1842. Thus he became known as the Iron Duke.
